Paul Thorn is coming to the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz on Friday, August 19 for a concert with his band featuring familiar tunes from his discography with special emphasis on songs from his latest release, Never Too Late To Call. The 7:30 pm show is presented by Snazzy Productions.
Thorn is an American Southern rock, country, Americana, and blues singer-songwriter, whose style is a mix of blues, country, and rock. An inveterate storyteller, Paul Thorn credits his gift of gab to being the son of a Pentecostal preacher. "You get to know how to get along with almost everybody. You just have to sit down and start getting to know one another."
Musically, Paul takes his rootsy style of gospel infused rock to a more refined place. Trading in the rough-around-the-edges style of Mission Temple Fireworks Stand for a slicked-back, more R&B flavor that's topped with the sweet, sweet sound of chicks and horns.
Thorn’s fanbase says there is NOBODY like Paul Thorn - a mixture of deep South Mississippi boy "raised by a preacher dad and a pimp uncle" charm, tongue-in-cheek wry wit, GREAT songwriting combining swampy, bluesy, funky rock, with some gospel overtones and just pure FUN, a tight-as-hell band and SO much GENUINE heart and soul.
