Santa Cruz Premiere of Great Highway; Journey to the Soul of San Francisco Surfing

GH_Rio.jpg

With Special Guests and Q&A with Director Mark Gunson

For more than seventy years people have surfed the San Francisco Bay Area far from the limelight reserved for the Southern California surf culture. Much like the city of San Francisco, the surf culture of Northern California is full of character, offering its own perspectives on the history and the future of surfing.

GREAT HIGHWAY traces the history of Bay Area surfing and the beach lifestyle from past to present and explores the changes that time reveals. The history is told by those who lived it, from the lifeguards at the historic Fleishhacker Swimming Pool in the 1940's, to Jack O'Neill's first surf shop on the Great Highway, to kids growing up surfing today.

Filmmakers Mark Gunson and Krista Howell will be at the screening to answer questions afterwards.
