Asleep at the Wheel has seen miles and miles of Texas, and in 2010, they clicked another milestone on the odometer: 40 years on the road. Led by singer/guitarist Ray Benson, the band bounced from West Virginia to Oakland before settling into the scene in Austin and becoming stalwarts on the local scene, which also included Willie Nelson, Marcia Ball and countless others. Aside from acclaimed recordings, "The Wheel" (as the band is often referred to) has authored a theatrical musical tribute to western swing icon Bob Wills, titled "A Ride With Bob." Their latest album, Still The King, is an all-star tribute to Wills and features guest spots from George Strait to Santa Cruz's own Devil Makes Three.
